Elm, plywood, acrylic paint, linseed oil and wax.
These are actually the second set of chairs I have made in this style. The original pair were made about twenty-five years ago and although the form and shape were the same, the finish was completely different. The chairs are not one of my original ideas but were in fact based on photographs in a Sunday supplement and then from subsequent research, I now believe those were based on a classic Adirondack chair. The front extended legs and stiles are made from elm as are the connecting struts whilst the support for the peacock tail backrest is made from ash. All the other parts are cut from different thicknesses of plywoods; 10mm for the backrest, 16mm for the sides and armrests and 19mm for the seat. All of the plywood parts were coated with acrylic paint and then waxed. Those parts made from elm and ash were oiled and then received a wax finish.
